Converting PDF to images: what to know
When to convert a PDF to images
Images are easier to use than PDFs in many places: slides, chat messages, social media posts, documentation, and websites that accept only picture uploads. Converting is also a reliable way to share a single page as a preview, or to make sure a document looks exactly the same on every device.
Choosing a format
PNG is lossless and is the best choice for pages with text, line drawings, or diagrams, because edges stay crisp. JPEG produces much smaller files and suits pages that are mostly photos; use the quality slider to balance size against detail. WebP usually gives smaller files than JPEG at similar quality and is supported by all current browsers, but some older software cannot open it.
Choosing a scale
Scale sets the resolution of the output relative to the page size. A scale of 1 is fine for quick previews, 2 is a good default for reading on screen, and 3 or 4 is better for printing or zooming into small text. Higher scales produce larger files and take longer to render, especially for long documents.
Privacy
Pages are rendered in your browser using a canvas element. The PDF never leaves your device, and the images are created in memory and offered as downloads. You can download each page individually or use Download All.
Limits
Converting turns text into pixels, so the images are no longer searchable or selectable. Very long documents at high scale can use a lot of memory; if the browser becomes slow, convert at a lower scale or split the PDF first. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before conversion.
