Merging PDFs: what to know
When merging PDFs helps
Merging is useful whenever several documents belong together but arrive as separate files. Common examples are a signed contract plus its appendices, a set of scanned receipts for an expense report, chapters exported one by one from a word processor, or a job application that must be uploaded as a single PDF with a cover letter, resume, and certificates.
How the order works
Files are combined in the order shown in the list, from top to bottom. Use the up and down arrows to move a file before you merge. Every page of every file is copied, so a 3-page file followed by a 5-page file produces an 8-page document. If you only need some pages from a file, extract them first with PDF Split, then merge the result.
What is preserved
Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and vector graphics stay sharp; nothing is rasterized or recompressed. Page sizes are kept per page, which means a letter-size file and an A4 file can live in the same merged PDF. Interactive elements such as form fields and bookmarks may not carry over, so check the result if those matter to you.
Privacy
The merge runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your files are read from your device into memory, combined there, and offered back as a download. Nothing is uploaded, which makes the tool suitable for contracts, medical records, or anything else you would rather not send to a server.
Limits and troubleshooting
Very large files are limited by your device's memory rather than by a fixed size cap. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before they can be merged. If a file fails to load, try opening and re-saving it in a PDF viewer, which often repairs minor structural problems.
